After Transplant Reduce the Incidence of Skin Cancer (AT-RISC)
Skin cancer is the most common cancer after transplantation and will affect the majority of long term transplant recipients. As Dr. Clark Otely, put it, some patients will develop skin cancers that will affect their quality of life and some will die from skin cancers that robbed them of their GIFT OF LIFE.
This major endeavor was made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from Connectics Cooperation. The collaborative group consisted of The International Transplant Skin Care Collaborative (ITSSC), The International Transplant Nurses Society (ITNS), Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO) and Weisscom Medical Communications who then formed the After Transplant-Reduce the Incidence of Skin Cancer (AT-RISC).
Developing a Professional Poster Presentation
by Cynthia L. Russell, RN, PhD and Elizabeth Good, MSN, RN, BC
You have just received a letter that has made your day.Your abstract has been accepted for a premier transplant nursing conference. You plan on preparing a poster presentation, but you've never been involved in doing this before and you are not sure where to start. Don't worry! The following steps will make it easy for you to prepare a winning poster presentation.
Step 1
Carefully, review the poster guidelines from the conference. Underline key points such as the date, time, and location of the poster presentation. Also, note the size of the area which will be available for you to display your poster, and what materials will be provided for you at the conference (McDaniel,Bach,&Poole,1993). It is especially important to know if your poster should be mounted to hang as a single or separate components on a wall, bulletin board, or carpeted display board. Most guidelines are written clearly and concisely, but if you don't understand something in the guidelines, either contact the conference personnel or ask someone who has experience with poster development to explain any questions that you may have.

Transplant Nurse Mentoring Program/Symposium Endowment
The International Transplant Nurses Society is pleased to announce the continuation of the Transplant Nurse Mentoring/Preceptorship Program (TNMP) in 2005. The TNMP is made possible through a grant provided by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In this unique program, novice transplant nurses (less than 3 years experience) working as bedside nurses, clinicians, transplant coordinators, educators, or as advanced practice nurses will be paired with an experienced mentor in the same area of transplant nursing. This mentoring experience will include discussions of their common roles, experiences, and developing expertise through the development of professional networking. This exciting program occurs in conjunction with the ITNS Annual Symposium that will take place in Orlando, Florida USA, September 22-24. A detailed copy of the symposium brochure will be available in late May. The symposium will include 4 workshops focusing on different roles of the transplant nurse from novice to advanced practitioner, as well as keynote speakers, podium presentations, and poster presentations. ITNS would like to extend this opportunity to 12 novice nurses and 6 experienced preceptors/mentors for the 2005 TNMP held during the ITNS symposium.
Education
The ITNS annual symposium, chapter presentations and collaborative educational projects are offered throughout the year. Continuing education credits are provided at all of these venues. ITNS continues to strive to provide more speakers and online educational opportunities for transplant nurses.

Identifying Case Study Possibilities
Think about your transplant nursing practice and all that you have observed, perceived, and experienced. Begin to identify interesting and unusual patient or caregiver situations. Distinguish those transplant nursing experiences that exceeded the daily challenges you have with other transplant patients. Each case study will highlight a new or unique aspect of your transplant patient and nursing care. Consider the following suggestions:
Patient Education Booklets
